Queensland's Government will reconsider a proposal to construct a passenger train line between Maroochydore, Caloundra and Brisbane, according to transport minister Mark Bailey (Sydney Morning Herald, 22-Nov-2021). The proposal was introduced in 1999, with the state government planning to develop a spur line connecting to the Sunshine Coast railway via Beerwah. Mr Bailey stated the Maroochydore passenger line is "absolutely viable" and will be discussed with the Commonwealth Government in 2022 "once governance for the [Olympic] Games is decided between the state and federal governments".
