NSW decommissions light rail service in Sydney inner west: minister

New South Wales' (NSW) transport minister Rob Stokes announced Sydney's "inner-west light rail fleet will be decommissioned for up to 18 months" effective 04-Nov-2021, citing structural issues with 12 light rail vehicles during maintenance checks (abc.net.au, 05-Nov-2021). Mr Stokes said: "The safety advice has been for these vehicles to be withdrawn from service and we are looking at whether a temporary fix might be made". The rolling stock are manufactured by Spain's Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, with the vehicle type also deployed in light rail networks to Canberra, Newcastle, Europe and North America. Bus services will replace the light rail service between Central and Dulwich Hill.
