Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC), via its official Twitter account, commenced (29-Jul-2020) a redevelopment project on the Nairobi Commuter Rail network. As previously reported by the Centre for Rail, KRC secured cabinet approval to upgrade the Nairobi commuter railway in Jan-2020, with plans of deploying faster commuter trains on the network. The railway operator commenced the removal of railway tracks on the Embakasi Line, ahead of "earthworks and rerailing" the line. Kenya's Government allocated KES2.5 billion (USD24.7 million) to the project.
