IN FOCUS: Australia expands ten-year infrastructure pipeline to AUD110 billion

Australia's Government announced (06-Oct-2020) it will invest approximately AUD14 billion in "new and accelerated infrastructure projects" under the 2020-21 Budget, expanding the country's ten-year infrastructure pipeline to AUD110 billion. Under the budget, Australia plans to allocate federal funding to the following rail projects by state:

  • Victoria
    • A further AUD208 million to Stage 2 of the Warrnambool Rail Line upgrade;
    • AUD320 million towards Stage 3 of the Shepparton Rail Line upgrade;
    • AUD30 million to the Western Rail Plan;
    • AUD7.5 million to improving passenger rail services between Northern Victoria and Melbourne.
  • Western Australia
    • AUD102.3 million to high capacity signalling on the METRONET;
    • An additional AUD80 million to the Wheatbelt Secondary Freight Network;
    • AUD5 million to Kenwick Intermodal Terminal.
  • New South Wales
