Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern submit merger application

Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (CP Railway) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) filed (29-Oct-2021) a railroad control application with the US Surface Transportation Board (STB) regarding the proposed establishment of Canadian Pacific Kansas City ("CPKC") and a single line railroad linking the United States, Mexico and Canada. As previously reported by the Centre for Rail, CP Railway entered a merger agreement with Kansas City Southern (KCS), agreeing to acquire KCS in a transaction valued at approximately USD29 billion. Subject to final US Surface Transportation Board (STB) approval, the deal will facilitate the incorporation of KCS and CP's rail lines, establishing the first rail network to connect the US, Mexico and Canada. STB is expected to complete a review of the transaction by mid 2022.
