Australia's Productivity Commission released (24-Mar-2020) its draft Resources Sector Regulation report. Commissioner Lisa Gropp stated "a consistent theme is that approval processes have become more complex… for no apparent environmental benefit". The report identifies the following priorities for improvement:
- Stronger engagement with industry and communities;
- Use of target approval timelines;
- Stronger risk and outcomes based approaches, and;
- Improved coordination between regulators.
The report is available for public review, with written submissions due by 05-Jun-2020. The final report will be submitted to the federal government by 07-Aug-2020. [more - original PR]
