ACT Government to commence Canberra light rail Stage 2A by year-end

Australian Capital Territory's (ACT) Government updated (28-Apr-2021) the delivery schedule for Stage 2A of Canberra's light rail network project. Under the development, the state government plans to construct a new light rail line from Alinga St to Commonwealth Park. As previously reported by the Centre for Rail, construction was expected to commence as early as 2021. Under the updated delivery schedule, first early works will commence by the end of 2021, with planning and works approvals to be registered in Oct-2021. Major construction works to raise London Circuit will commence in 2022, followed by construction of the first 1.7km of the light rail line to Commonwealth Park. Further, the ACT Government will commence construction of the new public transport interchange and light rail station at Woden by the end of 2021. AECOM was appointed as technical adviser, and expected to facilitate the design and planning approvals for Stage 2 developments.
